The ICO publishes new guidance on how businesses can make live marketing calls in a legitimate, lawful way

Context

The ICO has published detailed new guidance which covers live direct marketing calls, which are covered by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR)

Key points to note

The guidance explains the relationship between PECR and data protection and covers what counts as a live marketing call, what the rules are and how to comply with them.  Among the more specific topics covered are the difference between solicited and unsolicited calls; and information about when numbers registered to the Telephone Preference Service can be called.
