Context
The ABI has outlined six flood recovery steps relating to what a customer should do immediately following a flood and how the flood claim will be handled.
Key points to note
- The customer should contact their insurer immediately; their insurer will advise on arranging alternative temporary accommodation/trading premises if necessary and what information is required to support the claim
- A loss adjuster appointed by the insurer will assess the claim
- The loss adjuster will organise the cleaning and stripping out of the property
- The loss adjuster will appoint a drying company to dry and disinfect the property
- Repair and construction work will begin shortly after a drying certificate has been issued
- The customer will then be able to move back into the property
