Context
The FCA has produced 2024 product sales data in relation to mortgages, retail investments and pure protection contracts (including a spreadsheet version of the pure protection contracts data). The FCA has also published an ‘Interpreting the data’ web page. In relation to interpreting the data, the pure protection contracts data only.
captures new sales. It does not include any transfers, top-ups, alterations, increments or renewals. There are three separate pure protection contracts tables (.pdf and Excel spreadsheet) and glossaries.
Key points to note and next actions
Pure Protection Contracts sales data is collected for a limited number of product types – that is, products with complexities that increase the potential risks to consumers. These product types are:
- critical illness sold as a ‘rider benefit’ to mortgage protection and term assurance;
- income protection; and
- standalone critical illness.
The data published includes, covering quarterly periods from 2020 to 2024 inclusive:
- the number of advised and non-advised sales by product type;
- the number of provider and non-provider sales by product type; and
- the number of sales by product type
