Storm Christoph: flood advice from the Association of British Insurers

Context

The ABI has outlined six flood recovery steps relating to what a customer should do immediately following a flood and how the flood claim will be handled.

Key points to note

  1. The customer should contact their insurer immediately; their insurer will advise on arranging alternative temporary accommodation/trading premises if necessary and what information is required to support the claim
  2. A loss adjuster appointed by the insurer will assess the claim
  3. The loss adjuster will organise the cleaning and stripping out of the property
  4. The loss adjuster will appoint a drying company to dry and disinfect the property
  5. Repair and construction work will begin shortly after a drying certificate has been issued
  6. The customer will then be able to move back into the property
