The United Kingdom has launched the Global Anti-Corruption sanctions regime.
Key points to note
- On 26 April 2021 the Foreign Secretary laid before Parliament the Global Anti-Corruption Sanctions Regulations 2021. The Regulations are made under the Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2018.
- The Global Anti-Corruption Sanctions Regulations 2021 ensure UK sanctions relating to serious corruption are implemented effectively. The regulations impose asset freezes to deter those who are, or have been, involved in serious corruption.
- The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office have updated the UK Sanctions List on GOV.UK.
- 22 individuals have been added to the Global Anti-Corruption regime. These individuals are on the consolidated list and are subject to an asset freeze.
